I am pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award and Faculty Excellence in Service to the Community Award.

Christine Leighton, Assistant Professor of Education, is the 2017 recipient of the Emmanuel College Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award. Professor Leighton was selected for this honor for her passion for teaching, commitment to her discipline and dedication to her students’ academic success.

Sr. Karen Hokanson, SND, Assistant Professor of Education, is the 2017 recipient of the Emmanuel College Faculty Excellence in Service to the Community Award, in honor of Professor Christine Jaworek-Lopes. Professor Hokanson was selected for this award as she embodies the commitment to service that is at the core of Emmanuel’s mission and what Professor Jaworek-Lopes epitomized as a teacher, scholar and mentor.

I am so proud of the great contributions that Professor Leighton and Professor Hokanson have made to the Department of Education and the life of the College. We look forward to recognizing them during the 95th Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 13. Please join me in congratulating them on these outstanding achievements!
